MANILA, Philippines — The Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting (PPCRV) said it is still looking for more encoders for the unofficial parallel count of the May 9 election returns.
PPCRV national chairperson Myla Villanueva made the call prior to the elections even as she said the organization is already in its efforts to surveil the conduct of the polls at the PPCRV command center at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Quadricentennial Pavilion in España, Manila.
Villanueva said 150 volunteers are needed everyday from May 9 to 15 to “help encode election returns” and monitor election results for the unofficial parallel count.
In an interview with Tatler Asia, Villanueva said the unofficial parallel count is one of the mandate’s key centers.
“This we do to ensure that there is no 'dagdag-bawas' (anomalies in the counting) happening,” she said.
Villanueva also said those who want to volunteer as encoders may register at ivolunteer.com.ph.
The additional volunteers can choose the schedule that they want to do volunteer work from May 13 to 15.
Their roles will include encoding physical copies of the election returns printed by vote-counting machines (VCMs) after the 2022 polls close.
Moreover, aside from being fully vaccinated, the volunteers will also need to sign a waiver declaring their non-partisanship in the elections and should not be affiliated with any political party or candidate.
PPCRV closed sign-ups for volunteers on Sunday, May 15, but said they plan to open sign-ups again for those who want to extend their help from May 16 to 20. Other details about donations can be found on PPCRV’s official Facebook page.
